BRP has promised a new toy every 6 months for next Four (4) years.
The defender and the new 6 X 4 are Two (2)
I am predicting the Commander as we know it will be gone maybe by 2018 model or sooner, it will be a REAL ATV Defender & a REAL Sport Maverick ATV.
Kind of like the Basakwards Polaris line up, now they have the General which is currently marketed as a face off against the Commander And the Defender
Although BRP is a Multi Billion Dollar Company, Polaris publicly acknowledged they did TWO (2) BILLION in ATV sales in 2015
That's BILLION with a Capitol "B"
I know this has been run up the pole before BUT, it is getting closer to the truth, the Commander as we now know it is doomed.
Just look at the aftermarket Parts and goodies available for the Polaris and even now the Maverick VS what is available for the Commanders, vendors are dwindling down.
"You can say you READ it here"

I think it will be revised to be more user friendly (cab heat, noise, and maintenance access), but I don't think Can-Am is going to say to Polaris "You take this market share with the General". THAT DON'T MAKE SENSE !

Updated pictures of the Defender XT CAB with the new tires and wheels.
Sweet! That's the package and colour we are eyeing here except the HD8 motor. Look forward to more updates.
To my knowledge the Defender XT CAB model with the factory installed Heater and Hard Cab with Safety Glass Windshield and Hard Doors with Power Windows etc. is only available with the HD10 engine at this time. Maybe your dealer can buy and install it on the HD8 XT, or only the parts you want. And maybe Can-Am will offer it on the HD8 for the 2017 model. Of course, your dealer knows more about it than I do.

Here are some pictures. The doors are well made and fit into the roll cage and cab sides very nicely. The vent windows in the front area are stationary (do not open). The huge side windows are power windows and do open fully all the way down and out of sight. Driver's door has control for both door windows. I know, the pictures could be better. John

Thanks for the door photos, which are quite good by the way.. At least we know what we're getting now.

65!! Now I wonder why our HD10 max is just 38??!!!??!! Must be the pods are still on it........

I put a temp gauge on the dash with a sending unit on the air outlet of the cvt belt drive housing so I could monitor the clutch and drive belt temperature. Went on a 55 mile run yesterday with the ambient temperature as high as 75 degrees F. The highest the cvt temp ever got was 138 degrees, with the average only about 115. That is great for long belt life. Vehicle speed varied from about 8 MPH to 40 MPH. My Commander cvt temp runs much higher, would average near 150 for an identical run. This new Defender has been superb for the first 200 miles.

My husband and I just bought a new Defender HD8 DPS. We love it however when we execrate or slow down there is a "clank" every time that is very annoying. It is like there is slack in the rear end/transmission. it is not getting any better but the dealer insist that it is ok, it is making us very uncomfortable. We also found that the shifting is very hard, LOW is very hard to shift from, it has loosened up some in the High range but LOW still feels like I am going to break it if I push any harder to get it to park.
