I was in the woods getting firewood yesterday, had a snatch block setup in the tree trying to pull the log through the woods with my winch hooked to the rope. Now the tree was decent size but wasnt the heaviest thing ive pulled with the winch. Once i got good tight tension on the rope and winch i got a check engine light with a message saying Low Battery Voltage. The machine was running but why would it drain the battery that much or with say a radio and fog lights and reverse lights installed (all were off at that time and radio has a full power disconnect so it doesnt even have a clock or memory) would those aftermarket installations drain the battery or what? Should i look into a lithium battery or what?

Mine has done the same thing I do like the other guys when winching I rev the motor up a little while winching and it doesn't do it. Those winches pull alot of current.
Don't know how much you used the winch. But I battery gets low enough on voltage the light will come on and stay on till it gets above preset limit in ecm and if its low enough reving the engine will not turn light out till level is met. I left my two way on and killed the battery jump started it and my light stayed on for well over a hour. Only other thing would be the stator getting weak or out. At which point you will be driving and the ecm will go into limp mode and eventually shut the motor off. If battery is bad the winch will drain it alot faster than it would if battery is in good working order.

I wouldn't worry about it- when I'm doing any kind of heavy winching I rev my motor up some to help with the charging.
