we were out yesterday beating on the can am like a circus animal for a couple hours , riding in deep thick sand & stopped to grab a drink & noticed a rattle -chirp noise coming from the cvt area at idle , we went back to the truck & disassembled it & looked at everything, took the newly replaced Mav. belt off , didn't really see anything out of the ordinary , cleaned all primary & secondary parts, cleaned the belt & re assembled, noise was gone , slowly came back as the machine came up to operating temp later during another ride . mav belt only has around 150 miles since new ,kinda bummed cause the original that i took off still looks new with over 550 miles on it & never herd one peep from it.any input on this?

Are you getting any burning smell? Any clutch work/mods? Before I switched to the Mav belt, this is how mine would act after it warmed up. Strange it's doing it with the Mav belt tho.

no burnt rubber smell, belt doesnt a p p e a r to be slipping..., has lock up mod, new 1 way bearings, serviced, about 200 miles ago ,EVERYTHING properly assembled & torqued. i ran the motor in park without the cover on , wouldnt make the noise at that time it only did it at idle & just above, when i got home today i warmed it up & drove it hard , (burnout down my street, lol) it hasn't made the noise .think i'll tear it down till i find the cause & report back, want to change fluids in the trans & rear diff & do a valve adjustment anyway.turned 700 miles on the clock this weekend .been running great since day one.acting like a toothache that just goes away when you get to the dentist!

Strange as it may sound, the noise may be from lack of lubrication on the lever arms & or rollers.
It is a royal PITA but they do need service from time to time.
If you do service remember that a little lube goes a long way, & clean befor lube goes longer.
Hope this helps & is the problem.

thanks for the advise Ed, commander will be apart for a couple weeks ,going to Daytona next weekend for the Rolex 24, & will be working at the dealership the weekend after so i'll have to find time for the commander , & i just ordered a bunch of stuff to add to the list .... lol

Push out the roller pins in a small press to only 3/4 of their length, lube with my lube which I belive you have ?
basically do the same with the Bolts that go thru the lever arms, back out , lube shaft and re-install. be sure to use fresh Lock Tite on the threads.
If you need lube, PM or E-mail will work.

Use the green scotch on the side of the belt , my guess it was not clean when it was new . Buff it up and your noise will be gone

update on this, was working on the commander ,had put it on jackstands to service suspension & check bearings, lowered it after completing , started it & the noise at idle was there, quite loud, would go away upon tiping the throttle slightly, found a small part of the main frame contacting the cover at the bottom of the seccondary area , pushed it away with a screwdriver & the noise stopped.did this a couple of times to verify , as i stated in my first post ,we were flogging the commander & i must have ran over a log or something that tweeked the mainframe enough to contact the clutch cover ,just slightly enough to cause this ,not much clearance in this area of the frame & back of the cvt cover . all good now & no damage . time for some good under belly skid plates!

I know of the spot that you are talking about , I had to grind that spot as it was cutting into my clutch cover and making a hell of a racket . I had a pic of it but I can't find it now , in behind the back cover

exactly Troy, i just bent the metal for clearance, you could see where it was contacting the cvt cover. noise was very loud ,sounding like something loose ,clanking intermittently ,wasn't hard to find once it did it ,removed the center skid panel to see it & reshape ..thinking that the die grinder may come into use for added clearance as the motor mounts may allow enough movement to rub while on the trail.this is NOT related in any way to clutch or drive belt, just a can am clearance issue.

I gave mine a tune up with the die grinder

We picked up a rattle after this winter, did the lock up and pulled the screws and pins and rollers and cleaned and lubed with WS2, it almost sounds like a couple of tools rattling in the pans if you can imagine that. I can put the car in park and no noise up to 5000 rpm no. Lise, or in neutral, just when I am running?

Any ideas, ? And the lube you mention what is that stuff? They seemed dry when I pulled them.
