It won’t go over 40 miles an hour it like it hit the rev limiter and when you’re at 40 miles an hour and won’t go no faster it ran off into the water they had sand in it I clean the gas tank out I clean the injectors out as new spark plugs I took the heads off don’t really see anything wrong with it besides the valves leak a little bit around them

You are using the performance key ?
If using the right key . Then change the spark plugs. These motors will not miss with dead plug. But the will only do 40 ish mph. Unless the tip has blown off the plug you will not be able to pull plug and see that it’s bad. Just cause the plug looks good doesn’t mean that it’s not dead.
Transmission thinks its in low. Mine did that a couple months ago. You should be getting some message.
And if valves are leaking you lose compression and you lose power .
I am using the performance key and it’s reading the key on the dash and it don’t have any check engine lights or anything is it a way to check and see if it has any codes And what would make it think it’s in low gear
If the angle rotation sensor goes out it typically doesn’t know whether it’s in high or low gear . So it goes into limp mode.have you checked the spark arrester screen in the muffler.
Ok yes I check the spark resistor
My bet is also on the High vs Low gear.

Also if you have the Sport/Eco mode, you only get approximately 42% of throttle in Eco mode. Less jerky and obviously better fuel efficiency, BUT way less power.

That said, I would still bet it would go faster than 40 in ECO unless you are spinning LARGE tires or carrying a lot of weight.

Good luck
Even in eco mode you will still reach full top speed it just takes longer to get there. Eco is 42% full acceleration. Being throttle body only opens 42% of its capability.
When mine went in to that 40 mph mode I got a "Transmission Error" scroll across the display and the "Check engine" light came on.
I worked the shift lever back and forth for some time and it went away. I didnt drown or go through any deep water like you stated.
The gear shift sensor must be inside the trans as I didnt see anything when I got home to do the maintenance. Try working the shift lever back and forth.
Worth a try.

I have the same problem won’t show any codes already disconnected battery had it reset not in limp mode changed the belt, seat belt bypass is working can’t figure it out
If you are getting the tans fault replace the angle rotation sensor on passenger side of gearbox. It going into limp mode but it shows you the code on the display. Once you shift gears and the error is gone there’s no code to pull and engine light goes out.
