Excessive Heat inside cab console 2021 Can Am Commander XT 1000R

Bought this new 2021 commander XT 1000R in April and have just used it around the farm.Has 22 hours on it. Went on our first mountain ride and was very disappointed in the heat coming from the console down by our legs. Temps running normal range but had to stop ever 15 minutes or so and get out just to cool off our legs.I have notified Can Am regarding this problem and have made appt with dealer where we purchased this machine. Very disappointed because there big sales pitch was no more heat in cab since they had moved the engine to the rear under the dump bed to alleviate this problem as they had in previous years. I was told , this is the first they have heard of my complaint and I was just wondering if anyone else was having similar issues !!!
Thanks ,

Thanks for the phone number. Just called and reported mine as well. They told me to contact my dealer to take a look, but I know the dealer I bought it from isn't going to do anything about it.
They took my serial number down of my unit and when I take it in on August 5 that’s the first thing that will pop up when they start to do a service on it. My husband said that it was the coolant lines that run from the engine to the radiator up in front. They run right underneath the cab below your feet. Need some extra insulation or something to solve the problem. They’re going to fix our problem or they will know the reason why.

What year is your commander

I have a 2014 commander XT-P The heat is terrible this weekend I was riding at my hunting camp Temp 105 deg. I had read about a person who put a moving blanket over the console so I cut up a moving blanket it was night and day difference I went for a two hour ride I could not have done it without the blank. I am going to make a much nicer one with snaps, this is a cheap fix compared to what's out there. I will say I like the heat in the winter. hope this helps and all sales people are full of BULLSHIT!

Thank you for responding as we will take our machine in on August 5 and I will post any fixes that they I’ve come up with to alleviate this heat problem in our 2021 commander.
We took our machine in on August 5, 2021 for the heat problem coming up from the floor and console. They added some insulation inside the console and said to let them know if that helped at all. We took it on a ride about 10 miles and unfortunately the insulation they added did not help at all. We have contacted BRP once again to let them know they still have an issue with heat. They told us to take it back to the dealer where we purchased it and that they would document both cases and see what they’re gonna do to fix the problem. Like I said before when I first posted this we had to special order this machine and put $1000 deposit down nonrefundable without ever being able to test drive. They told us that moving the engine to the rear under the bed was the fix for this heat issue on previous year models. My husband looked underneath to see where the coolant lines we’re located and they are both directly under the floor pan next to the driveshaft one on top of the other. If anyone is looking to purchase one of these machines I would suggest that they make sure they have addressed this heat issue before buying.

We took our unit in on August 5 regarding the heat problem. They put a few strips of aluminum tape on the inside of the console. We took it for a test run and that was no help at all. We called them back to let them know and they told us that the next thing we could do was take the windshield out. That was their only suggestion. We decided to purchase some Cool It thermo guard insulating material foiled on both sides and did it ourselves. Cost was approximate $115. Took it for a test run again and still had the heat issues coming out of the top where the shifter is. Came back home and decided to take the windshield out took it for another run the heat problem was gone. Our dealer agreed to let us return the full windshield so we have traded it in on a power flip windshield that it’s on back order till the middle of October but no guarantee that will be in at that time. This will allow us to control the airflow and hopefully fix our problem. I’m adding pictures so you can see that whoever engineered this machine ran the cooling lines through the console creating this problem. So in other words Can-Am used the same design as previous years and just claimed that they fixed the problem by moving the engine to the rear and that was going to take care of the heat problem. All I can say is this is a piss poor engineering design.

Let me say from the outset that I'm not trying to diminish your complaints at all. They are legitimate complaints. I've no doubt you were very uncomfortable and more should have been done to ameliorate the heat problem for such an expensive machine. FWIW, I've read similar complaints of heat in the rmax for similar reasons. I would imagine the general also has similar issues.

But in context of "same design" I would say if you ever have a chance to spend any significant time in an OG commander or maverick, which has not had heat reduction band aids installed, in the heat of the summer, even with the doors and window removed, you will come to respect the true definition of heat. They have the v-twin motor, two exhaust pipes, the gearbox and coolant lines right between the driver and passenger, as well as the heated air from the radiator blowing throw the tunnel. So, it's not the same design. But definitely more should have been done.

After making the move from an OG (2013) Maverick with no heat reduction aids to a 2021 Commander XT back in June, I have to disagree with the above statement. I'm honestly not too sure the 2021 commander isn't hotter in the cab than my OG Maverick was. Maybe it's all in my head because I was expecting much cooler, but it sure seems hotter.

In that case, I’ll retract what I said. I’ve not been in a 2021. I just couldn’t imagine heat from coolant lines and heated air from the radiator could reach the heat level of the old ones with the motor, pipes etc there.

From the complaints I've read, the common denominator is the windshield. Seems like it directs airflow around and back through the tunnel. Older Commander owners with full windshields had dust problems for the same reason.

I would tend to agree with this statement. I have a 21. Flip windshield has been on back order since March. Wife and I ride in shorts and sandals when it’s hot out. 30 Celsius ( 86 Fahrenheit ). Several times this summer. No heat issues in the cab. I’ve even put my hand all over the shifter console while we were driving. Not hot at all? This is in the bush, maybe 5 miles an hour , no issues here. Might be a different story when the windshield comes in. I have ridden in several OG commanders , no windshield… they are HOT unless your doing Mach Jesus down the back road. Add a windshield … might as well just stay home. They are a sauna on wheels. . Guess I’ll find out eventually. New date for the windshield is mid September.

Tilt windshield, Troy cover and a fan-override do well for me in the hot Mid South weather.

We just got our 2021 XT delivered in Mexico 3 weeks ago. We have the BentMetal glass windshield with the vents below. I can feel some general heat in the cabin but nothing from the shift and all around the shifter/tunnel is only mildly warm but not hot. Hopefully they missed something when yours was built and can get you fixed up!

Our windshield was full. Try closing yours and drive about 5 miles You will see what I mean Then reply back. Windshield out and there’s no heat

I must have misunderstood your complaints, I thought you said there was excessive heat from the shifter and tunnel.

Good luck mi amigo!

I did and my car isn’t “hotter than hell”. I was trying to give you some input that not all of the 2021 Commanders are like yours but obviously your too hot to get it. There is no need to respond any further to me. Good luck!
