I dont go purposely mudding really at all with my rig. I do have kunati mongrels on mine , as I didnt want the stock big horns getting chewed up on the roads I ride. I have gotten into some mud here on the property, and they did just fine for me anyway.
Dot mud tires are more like a all terrain tire on a utv. You don’t have much weight so they won’t get traction in the mud like they do on a truck is the same mud hole .
I will throw in a bit of junk to this discussion the DOT can kiss my azz! My stupid state don't approve a damn thing about my sxs so until they start sending approved vehicles out to get me unstuck I will run the tire tread and depth of my choice on or off the road and replace them when they don't suit my needs any longer. Most of these (approved tires) are of soft compound and minimum depth and are (PREMIUM PRICED) which is not IMO kosher to the sport of offroading, so take it for what it is. And as always ROCK ON!!!
Thanks for the input guys. My neighbor just put 4 equal sized 29’s on his 1000 defender and the tread just didn’t seem to appear to have the “bite” that my ripsaw’s or the bighorns have. But he seems to just fine with them. So it he can get a lot more life out of them, then game on I guess.
BFG's TA-KO seem to be where it's at when going to an AT light truck tire. If you can get them in the right size, you might want to see about the KM's.
If you are looking for an aggressive UTV mud tire that is also DOT approved check out the Gladiator X-Comp ATR. They are a super tough steel belted tires that is a knock off of their LT truck tire.
I have been running these in 30/10R-14 size ion my side by side for a couple of years with excellent results.
There is also 15% off all UTV products until the end of May. Please let us know if we can help.
