Commander belt exploded

Purchased a new 2012 commander 1000 in august. We have put aprox 200 miles on it.
Never been wet stuck or really ran very hard at all.(never slipped belt)
I knew when I test drove it that the bucking and jerking was very excessive I purchased it anyway.
Yesterday we went to flat river in mo.i rode for aprox 45 minutes got out on a good streched put her to the floor hit about 45 and all hell broke loose.
I new the belt was gone so we pulled her back to the trailer called the dealer got it in and they pulled it appart ASAP awesome dealer.
Now the only problem is that the dealer won't warranty it and the belt was completely destroyed it is in small pieces.
Has anyone seen or heard of such a thing and does anyone have any good advice?

I told the dealer that for the price I paid I would not accept anything other than full warranty coverage on the belt and any other charges from this belt explosion problem.

ah, way different taper mating surface than a snowmobile clutch. interesting.
I have a commander 1000 XT, I've put it on tracks, 2 belts exploded within 60 Miles,
1st one driving on H and the second one on L. I've got a problem

Upgrade to a new QSC or air dam primary.
I was wondering if it is ok to hold on the breaks while applying (low) throtle until the clutch engages to limit the transmission kicking into gear.I am not trying to get a faster start but protect the transmission. Just bought a Commander XT 1000 last weekend.
Has anybody used a Highlifter belt or know who makes the belt?

erilus the engine must spin just fast enough to grag the belt and turn alittle for the gear to engage so holding the brake doesn't so much as just easy throttle pressure so it doesnt slam it in. I leave mine in gear alot of times because it doesn't clunk if it is already in gear. Just have to push the brake pedal when starting.
I brought my 2013 commander to the dealer, told them the I blew 2-belts in 60 miles, when the belt exploded, they caused some damage, no warranty on it, got out of there with a 1,200.00 $ invoice for the repairs and the new belt.
BRP warranty sucks. I paln on doing about 500 miles with it this summer. Should I buy the belts by the dozen? Or I think I will sell this piece of scrap and buy a RZR 800. They apparently have very little problems

2 belts in 60 miles??? i'd say you just need to take a look at how your operating the machine.

if it still continues to happen, i'd say its time for an in depth look into the stock clutch and possibly go aftermarket.

For sure sell and buy a RZR 800 "apparently" they have very little problems. Also dont buy from the dealer that sold you the commander or maybe it may be more apparent!
What are people doing different than me.My machine is really jerky during take off but I haven't blown a belt yet. On my sled I have to break the belts in and I was told this by the dealer.I know bottle rocket has said in many threads to change the primary which is what I want to do eventually but I guess I just don't get it sled is running over 160hp and is smooth as glass why is this. Sled is also Brp??? I have changed the belt on commander @10 hr and then again this winter just to have a new one for this summer but they still worked.
Sleds have no neutral, either forward or reverse. When you put it into gear the secondary has to turn to pop it into gear. Bummer its not smoother. My renegade was just as bad. My buddies Suzuki king quad is smooth as silk. Polaris has some jerking but not like the BRP products.
Thanks for the info. Now I see it the Neutral that's doing this. So when you buy a clutch should it be matched to style of riding you do mostly ie trail vs hard pack vs sand etc. What do you ask for when buying. Just say QSC and they know what you mean. Sorry for dumb question but I really don't know.
It's cause the stock clutches are garbage. The reason you had imperfections on one side of the belt is because the crank side of the primary, when under a heavy load, will spin faster than the outer part, in turn ruining a belt.

We haven't ever had this issue a QSC Primary.

Grandmaster pm [email protected] and he will explain clutching to you. Get good set ups and info.
Thanks bottlerocket I will do this thanks again
Lost a belt at 23 hours and 200 miles never stuck either and now has 70 hours and 798 miles just lost another belt 2012 can am commander . Why dealers say I got stuck but no mud ridding mostly dirt roads around my house.
Teeroy bud you gotta leave the clutch talk to the experts. Thanks for the info kris and airdam!

how do you ever get to be an expert if you don't ask questions? I stated I never had my Commander clutch apart, and wanted to be enlightened on why this is an issue for some. kind of why this forum is here, I like to work on my own stuff rather than send out parts and wait months hoping it works. I've been tearing down and rebuilding CVT clutches long before anyone thought to put one on an ATV.

Hey man sorry if I came off the wrong way you are a good guy! It's just weird seeing someone talk to clutch experts like that I can almost feel their eyes rolling!! Lol if I ever tried talking tires with discount tire it would be like having Rupaul giving mike Tyson fighting tips lol!!

You have a sweet ride man I'm sorry if I came off wrong, take care man

ah, no worries....I may have been a little defensive. kind of hardened from other forums where people aren't nearly as friendly as they are here. I was told the only stupid questions are the ones never asked.
Clutching

Hey guys I'm new to the thread but you guys should really look at UATV-TECH's clutch mod it is cheaper but a really good alternative to buying a new clutch. Cost is 250 I think.

I just sent my clutch in to be machined by ED (owner operator of UATV) from what I have read on another threads people are raving about his 100% lock up mod. I have a commander max with tracks and less than 100 miles on it already having slipping issues. I can let you know how it works when I get my clutch back.

Ditto... I blew my stock belt at 10 hours when I was cruising in High in 4" of light powdery snow, then hit a drift and tried to power across it... Didn't have time to shift into Low, which was obviously a big mistake, but given the trail conditions, etc. the result was a smoked stocker belt... Replaced it with a Gates G-Force Belt, and that worked fine until about 3 weeks ago... Long story short, and needing to run chains here in the winter, resulted in a totally trashed/shredded belt stranding me deep into the Colorado mountains... I just got my Clutch modded by Ed and also installed the Dalton kit and a new MAV 212 Belt... Look into that mod, it's a great alternative to the spendy Primary/Secondary clutch replacements... In that thread he'll also explain how you can verify that your Primary Sheaves are slipping, with pics to prove it... The stock belts/clutch are fine for casual riding... Push your Commander and you'll someday be dealing with a CVT belt that resembles this....
