Hey guys im new here, I got a 2016 Commander with 400 miles. Machine has been all good until now. I parked it 2 months ago with an battery tender hooked up. I went to start it and noticed the display is a lit up but cant really read what it say when something scrolls across. The sport mode light on the display is ever so lightly lit and will brighten when the switch is in sport mode. it will not even attempt to start.. Headlights come and all switches will light up. I dont hear the fuel pump either . I double checked the new battery confirming 12.34 volts, swapped keys, checked kew switch and took it apart and was clean, cleaned both keys, checked that power was going to push button. power coming out of push button when pressed, checked all fuses and relays and swapped relays, checked all grounds and even added an extra ground to make sure, inspected wire harness,i disconnected ecu and battery to try to reset, i took apart ecu to see if moisture was in their or any evidence of a burnt board. I got power to solenoid and crossed it with a screw driver and it would turn over but not start. I could barley see 1 time it saying perfomance key but most of the time its blank with 1 key and itll show backwards RRRRRRRRR's with the other.. I called 4 diff dealers with no help. They all said theyve never heard such a thing. It would be greatly appreciated if people could help me. Im 4 hrs away from dealer to try a new key and or a new programmed ecu. Thanks everyone.

Disconnect the cluster and see if it will start. If the cluster is dim it sound like low voltage or cluster has crapped out. Did you get the battery load tested . You can show 13 volts and load test and goes to 0 volts. Load test good volts 10 or higher preferably 11 or higher .

If you are checking a new battery it could definitely show 12.3 I would put it on a charger for a couple hrs then try starting again .

Thanks, I did put it on a charger to rule that out. Its an Oddessy battery that i had upgraded too. Ill try disconnecting the cluster tomorrow. Im assuming if its crapped out the ecu wont let other stuff work? This machine has never been in water or mud and has always been under cover. Seems like the when you take better care of something you expect to have less problems. I guess i need to go beat it with a hammer. Would a new dash need to be dealer programmed or could i get one and just plug and play? I dont care if mileage ect isnt correct if thats what needed to be corrected

It has to be mated to the ecm. Lots of people say it doesn’t but I have had to remove old serial number and input the new serial number to get the new cluster to work .

Thanks alot. They surely make sure that the consumer can only do so much without involving a dealer.. Only issue i would have is that i can never make it up to the dealer. Is there a way or a company online that has the capabilites of programming it and then sending it to me? I know car dealerships say they need the vehicle to reprogram a new ecu but i know a place in texas that has used ecu's and can program them to your vin.. I have friend that did a motor swap and had to go that route after realizing he needed the cars ecu the motor came out of. the car was no longer availble after he got the motor.

so i went out and put everything i had torn apart back together and took the display off. She fired right up!! Tried both keys and it still fired up. Some glad its not the ecu. I took the display apart and there was green corrosion on the circuit board shorting it out id say.. Their was still condensation inside the display housing and circuit board. I clean it up best i could with a q tip and alcohol and it started a couple times then nothing again. Something is wrong with the display. Ill leave it unhooked for now and cover the plug side on the harness until i address it later. Sure wish a new display would marry itself so i wouldnt have to by the buds or travel 4 hrs to the nearest dealer. Thanks again Acefire for your help!!!

Can Am SXS Dual Analog upgrade dash speedometer tachometer Commander Maverick | eBay

I bought this one. If you read through it, it has a good chance of going plug and play. I took mine to the dealer for BUDS programming and they told me it worked perfectly without any programming whatsoever...except for KM to MPH. They had to do that with BUDS.
Thanks alot for the info. ill definatley check into it. mine is on backorder and no salvage yards have anything.
