Time to replace my shot stock Bighorns... I have looked at everything out there, and it seems the trend (from the manufacturers anyway) is to run the same size tires front and rear now, and not many options in 14" tires to stick with the staggering sizes setup (narrow front, wider rear) from the factory... Do any of you who have gone to the "all four tires the same size" regret it performance-wise...? I really don't want to buy a set of narrow rear wheels so I can mount narrow rear ties to match the front to be honest... I'm leaning towards Maxxis Vipers in 29x9x14 F and 29x11x14 R on the stock 1000 XT wheels, but I'm not convinced I'll like how open the rear tire pattern is for the type of trail riding we do... If I go with "all four tires the same size", I'm leaning towards Super ATV Intimidators in 28x10x14s (vs '30s) to keep the weight down...

I run the Maxxis "Ceros" model A 6 ply Radial however they only come in 26 " and do measure out to be the same size as the OEM bighorns, wear very well. good in all conditions but deep mud which I di not ride in the desert.
running 26 x 11 x 14 all 4.
only thing noticeable is on pavement even with P S they have a larger contact patch and noticeably harder to turn at high speeds, not enough to make me say no to 11" on the front but it is there. in deeper loose trail conditions a narrower front tire will usually point better than the wider models.

I prefer It. I even bought a fifth tire and wheel for a spare. Dont have to worry about any tire going flat. STI chicanes and they are all round fantastic

I went same size front and back after about 200 miles when I first got mine. I went to 28-10-14 bighorn originals front and back. This was way better than stock when going on roads with snow tracks in them. Following a stock commander and watching the front go fine but the back sliding back and forth between wheel tracks I knew I made the right decision. I now have ITP ultracros R Specs in 29-9-14 to try and ease the stress on the front steering components. They seem to roll/turn a lot better than the bighorns.

I'll admit I do have that problem when I run in the snow, which is from October to May here in Colorado...

Mud ruts same issue, currently running 28x10x14 STI black diamonds on all 4's. I like that it's easier to crawl out of the ruts made by others with fatties on the rear when it's time to escape the depths approaching that are unknown and on the higher speed trails the even grip on both ends adds to the confidence factor.

I have been running 30/10R-14 tires for about 2 & 1/2 years on 14x7 wheels. I believe it actually improved my handling. I have zero regrets, Plus now I can rotate my tires front to rear for longer tire wear.

The tread pattern you choose depends on your riding area and how you ride. Thankfully there is a much better selection now than a couple of years ago.

Do you ride a lot of mud? I see you mentioned trail riding but you are leaning towards more of a mud tire.

We have a good selection of tires in 28/10R-14 as well:

28/10R-14 Tires | Discount Tire Direct

14x7 4-136 Wheels | Discount Tire Direct

Let us know if we can help.

I have 30x10x14 bighorn's all around and I have no bad effects from it. For where i'm at it has better floatation in the snow. And you can rotate the tires front to rear and make them last longer.

Hmm ace your skinny pizza cutters could not even make it into one of our cabins .
We need 10" min. Or we do to much trail damage or just get stuck non-stop

I'm leaning towards either 28x10x14's or 29x10x14's at the moment... Keeping in mind I live at 9,500 feet and my clutch already strains to get the RPM's up with the stock 27's... I'd like to go to 30's (have enough lift) for the additional ground clearance in the snow, but don't want to take the hit in extra tire weight and push my clutch/belt past it's limits... :r_c:

Set of 28x10x14 Tensor Regulators on the Maverick in AZ for 1500 miles. And a 5th spare.
Set of 27.5x8.75x15 BF Goodrich All Terrains on the Commander in Wi - and a 5th spare - lots of county roads open to get to trails now so we never have to trailer.
All my flats - with various tires have been torn sidewalls. No way to fix on the trail.
Would never go back to two sizes of wheels/tires. So much easier to deal with one size and performance/handling has never been a problem.

We have been putting same size tires on the ATV's since 02. When the SxS's came out we started doing the same thing. I am currently running 29x11x14 Bighorns on STS 9" wheels. They work great aired down in the snow. I was going to go with the 30x10x14s but when I did the math I found that the 29x11s would put 15% more foot patch on the ground than the 30x10s. I like the way they handle a lot better than when you run skinny's on the front, at least in our riding environment.

No Regrets

I went with 28-10-14 Rock a Billys on the 7 inch XT wheels,(Sedona recommends 8" but I didn't know that until after I got them). Tracks a lot straighter on high speed gravel roads and feels very stable. Turning radius is tighter also.
Like everyone said, being able to rotate them for better wear is a big plus.
