I got my stuff last week and put it in over this past weekend. I would like to thank everyone that has contributed to this thread and figured out what it takes to do this mod. :)

The install was really straight forward and turned out great. I found an unused DELPHI WeatherPac connector behind the dash panel and it was switched and fused (15 amp accessory on my fuse panel). I went to a local parts store and was able to pick up the pins and seals to make a connector that would just plug in without having to cut/splice the factory wiring.

I took that switched power to a dash mounted ON/OFF/ON switch on the dash. In the down position the reverse lights are controled by the micro switch I installed by the gearshift. In the middle position the reverse lights don't come on at all. In the top position they will come on and stay on (as long as the key is on of course).

I built a harness for all this and taped the wires up then encased them in the flex loom. I ran the wires alongside the factory harness and you would be hard pressed to find anything that does not look factory installed.

The hardest part was mounting the micro switch at the gear shift. The bracket that came with it made the job easier...but it took some trial and error and I had to position it a few times before I got it exactly right. The rest of the job was just routing wire where it goes.

Here are some things to be aware of:
1.) After you remove the reflectors and cut out the little triangle shaped piece of plastic that the were bolted to...you will need to enlarge the entire opening just slightly. I did this by sanding the inner part of the opening with some 100 grit sand paper. It takes a little elbow grease....but is really a 4-5 minute job per side. The rubber insert for the lights should go in and fit snug...but with enough freeplay to turn it in place without the light installed.

2.) There is a pillar sticking out from the tailgate side of the 2" opening that is for mounting the factory BRP turn signal light. It stuck out far enough that I felt it was going to interfere with the reverse light install. I used my multi-tool and cut about 1/4" off of that pillar to give the reverse light clearance. Don't do this if you ever intend on installing the factory blinker kit and don't know have a workaround in mind to fix it later! I had a couple in mind, so I did not mind trimming it down some.

This is an easy mod to do and very usefull if you back up in wooded areas or back off of trailers in the dark (I will do both often). The lights are not "spot beam" bright...but are brighter than the reverse lights on my 04' Dodge 3/4 Ton pickup.

The dash switch I ordered has a amber LED in the bottom and a green LED in the top. I wired it up so the green LED will come on anytime that the lights are actually lit up...meaning if the switch is in the down position..when you put it in reverse the green LED will light up. Also when you manually turn the lights on in the upper position...the green LED will again come on.

The only catch 22 about adding these lights, from what I can tell, is that the factory BRP Turn Signal Kit comes with lights that are to go in this same location...so if you are planning on buying the factory turn signal kit you will have to either do something else for reverse lights or do like I plan to do and install the module that allows the factory Tail/Brake light to function as Tail/Turn/Break. I think they run about $40 and should be easy to wire into the factory BRP signal kit.

Here are some pics after it is all done:

Where did you get the dash mounted switch?
I got it from OTRATTW, to get the exact model I got you will have to choose:

V6D2UHNB -GREEN/AMBER (+$11.25)

From the drop down menu at the bottom of this page.

OTRATTW

They have the same style that come factory on the commander...but not with the same lens/amber color and not that say reverse/backup. I think the laser etched series that I used looks good with the factory switches.

Backup lights

Just ordered my lights today. Might have to wait for spring to install them. Next up, gonna order the low range sport mode harness. I think all of my add ons will have to wait until spring, too friggin cold up here in northern Alberta to do anything until at least April.

Well I got my NOS micro switch last week and got my reverse LED lights today. I got my sport mode low mod last week. I went ahead and installed that this last weekend because I couldn't wait to do them both at the same time lol. I'm hoping to be able to get started on this reverse light mod this week.

Has anyone found any other models or designs of 2" lights? On my GMC 2500HD I have LED reverse lights with a CREE LED and lens pointing straight back on each bulb. Those single LED's are so damn bright! I believe they are 5 or 7W LEDs. They look as bright as headlights when you are looking at them from behind. That would be nice to have something similar that would fit with those 2" holes and grommets.

The web site says they are currently out of stock. I just ordered my back-up lights and microswitch. Does anyone know of other providers of these switches?

Thank you for the reply's. I already have the microswitch coming with the lights. I thought putting the quote in the post would be enough but I should have been more specific... I am looking for the rocker switches with the pretty lighted pictures. My dash is full but I was hoping to put some in the roof between the visors for back-up lights and future driving lights. I liked the ones duckcommandr used and was wondering if anyone knew of someplace else who carried similar. The OTRATTW site says they are out of stock. The sales staff said it will be 4 weeks before they are re-stocked.

Utv inc. I just bumped the thread about the switches back to the top. Hope this helps.

If it can't play, it can't stay!

I put some Vision-X solos on mine, they are expensive but holy crap are they bright. I made a tin plate that sandwitches between the lens & body & bolted on were the 2" reflectors were & they are a perfect fit. Sorry I have tried to post pictures lots but it won't work from my iPad

Ok I got tap talk so here are some pictures of the vision-x solos before & after
1st pic is tin plate in the hole
2nd is tin plate installed(before paint)
3rd is tin plate installed side view
