Commander vs Maverick

I am considering getting a Maverick XMR and getting rid of my 800 Commander. I have zero experience with the Maverick but I have ran across a deal that makes it very tempting and the wife said go for it. I put a lot of work and $ into the Commander this winter but most can be switched over. I am curious how much difference there will be.

Night and day better if you don’t need the bed storage.

I heard our fearless leader has put his ‘Mander out to pasture. WV yard art if you will. My understanding is that there are many usable parts still left to be had. If he doesn’t respond here due to his infrequent “Commander forum” interest as of late, you can reach out to him via the Yamaha atv forum.

Maverick, the xmr is very tall and the bed sits higher. I'm not sure what is going to happen in the near future as I'm sure the gen1 Mavs days are numbered so u might find tma price drop in them !

Performance wise, Maverick hands down is better in every aspect. Things I don't like but, could modify or live with. Open bed, or rack or platform with holes in it, whatever you want to call it. Needs a tray insert to make it into an actual bed or to get any protection from trail debris. Exhaust placement and lack of bed allows exhaust heat to melt your ice prematurely. Even with a Pelican or Yeti. No toe points stock. You have to purchase a 2" receiver to bolt onto the rear. Mud protection is low, tires hang out the side of the fenders. A company called Rokbloks has good ABS flaps that don't look horrible. Small list of cons if you compare to the amount of junk we have to do to the Commander...

If your coming from a 1000 Commander the 1000R will still put a huge grin on your face.

For pure fun the Mav is great. For work and play stay with the commander. My bud has a 14 Mav. It great for fast run. Towing capacity on Mav sucks, is 2" receiver bens. Storage is way less you get dirty even when you don't want to. I'm able to go everywhere he goes, not has fast. But I can bring way more stuff that he does!
