Has any one installed the xmr counter shaft and low gear from a 2015 xmr in the commander gear box. I put 30 inch tires on and I think this will help with belt issues and make up the difference for the tires.
A low speed gearbox is from the 6x6 but guys on the mav forum are putting the xmr gears in the normal Mavericks for lower gearing for large tires . I think it would work good . They say about 300 bucks for parts , but about a day messing around to put them in if your fast . Guess that would be two days for me .lol
The 2015 and up xmr and 6x6 are now the same low ratio which is 28% lower than standard trans. if they start selling that ill indulge but im not doing all that work for a measly 14%. That may not even be noticeable.
I honestly don't know the price I just had them order them. I should have them tomarrow so I will give u the total when I pick them up and post some pics.
No it is only low range that is affected. The part numbers pictured are from the 6x6. The difference being that the XMR's use a different counter shaft. You can do the entire gear set for an overall lower gear ratio in both High ad Low however it may be about as cost effective to do an entire Trans swap. These are some of the things I am looking into.
Xrs, xxc, xds high ratio= 3.36
Low ratio= 5.84
xmr high ratio =3.70
Low ratio = 6.43 2014 model
Low ratio = 7.51 2015 and up
This was posted by Aracula on the mav forum I have not verified these ratio's I will work on doing so but have no reason to believe they are incorrect as well. I will see if I cant track down the 6x6 ratios as well. However it does give some insight as to which gear set would be best for you.
Like I say those looking for more details don't hesitate to shoot me a call and I will continue to research this for everyone!
Only low gear will change reverse and high use the same number of teeth. When comparing part from the commander low changes from a 44 to a 46. The counter shaft is on back order and will ship on the 15. I will keep everyone posted when I get it.
I did the CV tech primary and machined factory secondary from AirDam and it gives a noticeably lower take off ratio in all gears without affecting top end and eliminated my belt problems. My only complaint is the engine braking is almost too much now.
my high range sucks, it feels like im taking off in "2nd gear" if you will its just too tall of a gear. I already have qsc primary with smaller one way bearing. I really dont need 70 mph. Id be happy if high range only went 50 mph and low 20mph. right now my low goes about 40 so thats not really low enough
It will fit but not sure if it will fit the stock cover . But if you buy the upgrade kit it comes with the cover . The roller secondary works so much better than the stock one . Back shift is so fast
Now I can say myself) lowering the L gear is very cool, a smile to your ears when you go to a steep hill)))
