Debating purchase

I have the cash in the bank to buy one toy (and approval from the wife)...i am torn on what to get.

First, let me tell you what I plan to use it for:

I want something that i can haul trailers, carry my guns for hunting, carry the spoils of hunting, as well as trail riding and keeping up with my kids and brother in the woods.

I am a huge yamaha fan and have thought long and hard about the rhino because i like the manual locker and large hauling capacity. However, the thought of buying something that is 6 years removed from the current selections and grosely underpowered and slow is hard for me.

I have also thought about the Polaris rzr, but just can't get myself over the poo-poo reputation of sub par components and crappy reliability (been that way since I was 7yrs old and I am 32)

I then thought about the new awesome wildcat, I love that it has a manual locker and great suspension travel (for rock climbing and smooth ride)...however i am concerned about the width and length for tight woods riding (live in SE).

So, all that to say that I am now torn between the wildcat and the commander xt 1000.

Do any of you regret your purchase? Should I wait until July to see what is going to be there for 2013? Should I get the wildcat instead?

Keep in mind the wildcat has power steering, better suspension, but it is very wide and has no dump bed or 2" receiver...

More than likley i will become the proud new owner of a 2012 commander 1000 xt unless someone can convince me otherwise (wait for 2013 or get the AC Wildcat).

Thanks for your help

I can't say anything about the wildcat but I ride with rhinos and rzrs and my x seems to be far superior.

I think you'd be real disappointed in yourself if you didn't get the Fox Shocks that come on the X Package. I don't know how Can Am is about adding those shocks to the XT package, but in my opinion they're vital to the performance of this SxS.

While Polaris does not have the best rep, do you really want to buy a first year model ? I wouldn't buy the wildcat until it's proved itself in the wild first. The commander has a better fit and finish but for trail riding the s would be a better choice. I may wait until July to see if Polaris updates the s.

Good luck with whatever you choose

Well, that kinda narrows down your choices if you're serious about being able to hunt and work with the machine. Right?

Big Yamaha fan here, too. Yamaha gave me several years of partial sponsorship when I rode Enduro in the 175 class decades ago. I have been loyal to them ever since, till I bought my Can-Am. I decided against the Rhino for some of the same reasons you mention above. But did you know that the Can-Am has a larger hauling capacity than the Rhino?

Can-Am towing - 1500 lbs
Can-Am bed - 600 lbs.

Rhino towing - 1212 lbs
Rhino bed - 400 lbs.

Back to quote 1. If you're serious about your needs, a wildcat just won't cut it, will it? I want to see you tow a trailer with your wildcat. Tow capacity - NA. Rear rack - 300 lbs

If you're willing to sacrifice the workability of the Can-Am, then the wildcat is a more interesting choice. But if your needs are really as you stated them - IMHO, the wildcat is not the right choice. That would be true of any full sport machine. You kinda need a dual purpose machine which is ultimately what brought me to the Can-Am. Performance and workability all in one package. Same needs as you.

Of course, JMO.

Best of luck with your decision.

The limited shocks are nice for work and play. I agree the XT shock are good but don't last but a few months and the grommets wear out. I don't know about the limited shock grommets but the X shock grommets seem to hold up.

I would wait to see what comes out if you want something just right. I hope Can Am comes out with something to keep up near the end of the year because they will either have it out this year or next year from the way everything is going in the industry. Or maybe get something at a good price used that you can sell if need be in 9 months.

I would wait till July- the rumor( even my dealer is hearing from rep ) is that a bad azz Can Am pure sport is hitting as a 2013 model .

that means , anounced in july, and market in Sept/Oct.

At the Very least, power steering will be factory equipment on the 2013s IMO.
And with that, would be factory QE front dif.

To answer your question, CAN AM , all the way . I love mine, I call it my Goat on steriods. but i have it heavily moded.

Im not taking any chances. I put a deposit (and was the first one on list ) for a speculated Pure Sport 2013

Actually, did the same on a 4 seater ( but its for a buddy )

Whatever you decide, Im sure you will Have a blast with. Its a Great Sport/hobby.

I have the Commander 2012 Ltd, and I like it. The nice thing is you can ajust the shocks from inside the cock pit. You can increase the air pressure to raise it up to clear rocks or carrie a load, or lower the air pressure to smooth out the ride, without even getting out of the rigg.
I can carry a load and pull a trailer at hte same time, and you can't do that with the RZRs or the Wild Cat, that why I got the Ltd.
