2011 800r commander CVT??

I am a new owner of a Demo unit that has a goofy cvt. First thing I did was replace the belt, found a .070 inch engagement gap. I have some knowledge of CVT systems. I do not know how to adjust this gap. I have machined many
for this. I have not been able to get an answer from any place. Also I have read many threads and Adam seams to know a lot about CVT systems but he does not use the can-am clutches, any one know why?
Gates Corp. has a great section/education for cvt drives.

The stock primary is not a locked sheave setup so they only drive from one side, that is one of the big advantages to going to a aftermarket clutch. You should not have to do any machining go get your factory setup to work as intended.

Another promising setup is this setup that locks the sheaves togethor on a stock primary.

pider Locking Primary

the clutch gap you speak of is normal on the can-am clutch. even with an aftermarket primary clutch you will still have this gap from the outer movable sheave to the belt. this is normal on any type of constant tension clutch. if you are used to a slip-n-grip or deflection type primary used on many polaris and all sleds, they run a smaller air gap and run the belt loose in the primary so the fixed and movable sheaves have an equal air gap to the belt so when the primary engages it grabs the belt equally on the fixed and movable sheave sides. on a constant tension belt setup, the belt rides just a hair off the inner fixed sheave, and there is a considerable gap to the movable sheave. this allows the movable sheave to close continually under centrifugal force by increasing RPMs untill the movable sheave finally hits the belt pushing it against the inner fixed sheave beginning the engagement process. you cant make the gap smaller, and dont need to. the OEM primary clutch on the commander is a belt eater. carry spare belts, or start saving for an aftermarket primary. you have a few choices, but dont sweat the gap in that primary to the belt. perfectly normal

Needed 3 to add a link

Thank you two for your input, Stay with me here I am beginning to understand. I am going to submit a couple of links to give you some insight as to what I am familiar with.
The first one: not really training more a sales pitch.

The second one is the technical information From the Gates web site I have been with Gates R&D for 25 years)

Snowmobile Education From Gates

Gaposis will cause RPM to be high at engagement that burns belts not good for trails. Please let me know your thoughts.

I have also asked some of the Gates Engineering staff to add input if you
are interested.
Thank you
