Therma tech sound suppression mats
Can those of you that used the Therma tech sound suppression mats comment on how it is holding up? I am also curious about wrapping the CVT cover with Therma Tech. Do you think that it holds too much heat inside or keep heat from the engine area away from the belt. I would appreciate comments on your results.

I put Thermo Tec all over under the the covers around the engine. I also removed the heat foil on the CVT cover and put Thermo Tec all over that and some on the back (outside back).
I took the panels off and covered them over several days in the house wile watching TV. I would say I spent about 25 hours or more with the entire project, but I was in no hurry. Part of the reason I took so long, is I cleaned each piece off with cleaner and after I got the Thermo Tec on I would press it on a couple of time over every inch so it would not come off. Mine has yet to start pilling off and it all is holding up great after a couple of washings with the cowlings (engine covers) off. I also got some exhaust wrap and wrapped the exhaust to where it comes out under the bed. And that took a couple more hours to put on but it keeps the heat in the pipe so you get less heat from the start coming up. I found Thermo Tec adds about 20 pounds or more and I put 2 1/2 rolls overall. but you can tell the noise level is lower and the heat is mostly gone (I missed it on a cold night ride), and on top of that the CVT cover takes away about 1/3 of the noise from there. Would I do it again? Yes Was it night and day difference? No Is it worth the cost and time? Maybe not for everyone but I had fun doing it and it is a improvement.

You said it cut 1/3rd the noise which seems like night and day to me.
I noticed you left the drain holes in the cup holders. It heat still going to be a problem for cold drinks? Thanks for the info. I'm excited to try this. Especially the exhaust wrap. ________ Lashay live Last edited by jeffh; 09-02-2011 at 01:22 PM. |

Flyin great job on your project. You hate to hide the work you did. You made the video now copy the patterns and my check is in the mail.

I can still feel a little heat coming up through the shifter hole, so you might want to put foam in there like has been done. I was thinking the foam would get dirty so I might put a flat piece of rubber with a cut but I it will be hard to get it to stay on good. The exhaust wrap comes in colors, black or the tan color I put on. What you do is cut a long piece (the package says how long per foot/inch & I cut it a little longer but they were about right on what they tell you). Then you soak that piece in water for 15 minutes, ring it out and start wrapping. I started at the head and worked back without removing the exhaust. Just be sure and pull it very tight as you get going. I would pull on it like a rope every rap and that stretches it some. It will look good when you are done but I thought it could have been just a little tighter, but don't worry the next day it will be dried out add shrink up just enough to make it tight. I did not put the silicone spray on because it would be hard to do without removing the exhaust, and I don't mind replacing it a couple of years down road.

So true about it all being hidden. And your right I wish I could have made patterns, but once you get going you get the cutting as you go figured out. It really doesn't have to look perfect, I just got a little carried away.
