CVT vs Standard Transmission
New to the SBS machines. Just curious why Commander and Polaris (and guess others) use CVT's as opposed to a Manually Shifted Transmission like alot of 4 wheelers and dirt bikes.

I've wondered the same thing. I came from a Honda Rincon 680 before buying my Commander. I've always been used to the instant I give it throttle, I'm moving. The CVT is far less responsive. Plus, just like in my son's Arctic Cat 90, if you get the CVT belt the least bit wet, forget about reverse.
As much as this Commander cost, I would have love to see them add the Honda type transmission and power steering. My 9 year old can hardly turn the thing. I know, I know...a 9 year old should not be driving. Don't preach when ever other post on here is about drinking beer and riding. We all have our shortcomings. The boy loves to drive. At least I make him use the gray key. lol. Anyway, hopefully someone will provide an answer. If I had to guess, I would say the cost is much cheaper than the Honda type shaft drive.

There are definitely advantages to both setups.
