Towing - for what it's worth

Hauled my Commander to Tenn. recently.
Older Motor Home - blew tranny.
3 trucks (one son kept it to ride, then another son) but they all averaged 8-10 MPG and we all complained about how hard it towed. All trucks are reasonably new RAM 1500 (345 HP and 395 HP) so don't think it was lack of power.
I have a ~2000 tractor that I tow now and then and it is a piece of cake compared to the Commander.

All I can figure is BIG WINDSHIELD sticking up in the air is causing LOTS of drag. (we all agreed this was probably the case).
Windshield BOWED in about 3 inches at the top but didn't break!
Can't go anywhere without spending extra time talking and explaining about Commander. Everyone really likes it.

Maybe it is the windshield. I have the half-windshield and tow with a Subaru Tribeca (250+ HP). It tows like a dream. I've been towing stuff for decades with varying sizes of vehicles and find this a rather easy tow.

Gas mileage isn't great, but that isn't unusual for a rather small vehicle towing 2/3+ of its tow limit. I get about 15 mpg compared to a norm of around 24 mpg. Does a bit better (17 mpg or so) on the rare occasion that I have taken it into relatively flat land, but I live in the mtns & deal with that more often.

Diesel truck is what you need. Once you have a diesel, you will never go back to gas.

For the bow in the windshield, I would install a 1" piece of aluminum angle at the top, inside of windshield. You can do 80 with no problems.

agreed. although my commander knocks a solid 2 mpg off of the mileage on my f350.

Or get a new windsheild instead of trying to fix the pos CAN AM one... I actually chopped mine to a 1/4 and painted it black, turned out nice and keeps a lil wind off, and I dont have to keep it clean
