I took mine into the dealer yesterday and talked to them. They are working with the manufacturer to replace my diff with 506 from the 2012. Mine would start whining above 35 mph. The dealer said that the problem with rear diff is that the pinion bearing were made in China. The bearing were not all the same thickness. The assembler of the diffs assembled them with the same shims. Some bearings were to thin, which would cause the gears to have a small contact area, which would cause the whining of the gears. The manufacturer has since started checking the contact pattern of the gears which is why the 506 diffs on the 2012 models are not making the whining noise.

My diffs are pretty loud..it sounds like a jet. Dealers says its the clutches??? WTF? I've never herd any kind of clutch sound like that. When i took it in a few weeks ago for the 10hr service; they found that the front diff was low on oil and had alot of shavings in it (they said that this was normal for break-in-period; ??).
Oh yeah, they also found a low coolant level as well....and the next morning, i found a tinny puddle of anti-freeze below the front end of the bike. No issues so far but Im glad i got the 2yr warranty!!

I don't know what's going on with the diffs, but I know on my 2010 Outlander I chipped a couple teeth in the rear diff and they replaced it with the HD Commander unit, it has an extra mounting location. And.....there was no change in noise, still as quiet as it was with the old diff. I checked and there was no tag on top like there is on my '12 Commander. My Commander is fairly loud, you have to yell to talk at any speeds over about 15mph, hopefully BRP gets this figured out....lol
