I just ordered an AFE ProGuard 7 for this same purpose, K&N has been known to let dust past the filter so ive heard, which defeats one of the purposes for this mod.
I had one on my rhino for 5 years intake is spotless..the commander has nver been cleaned...spotless

The location on the commander for this air intake mod is idea. I rode in the CA desert all weekend following behind several riders eating dust and then at Glamis and my outter wear is clean as hell. The Rhino had to be clean every 3 big trips but not the commander.

Hay guys at Weller Racing, I'm another non fan of K&N. Is there any chance you tested the big Uni 4"x5 3/4"X 11" #uap-1140 Just wondering. Your unit looks grate, just don't like the K&N. Shoe

K&N filters work really well and I have been using them for over 15 years in the desert and dunes. I have never had dust or sand make it past the filter. I have run them without an outwear as well.

If you oil the filter there are no issues.

Maybe the sand dust isn't as fine because the dust here on the east coast gets past the k&n that's oiled The dust gets so bad on the trails in wv you can't see 5 ft in front of your machine

The dust out here in the the west is year round and thick due to the lack of rain. Some deserts worst than other but still all bad. The bottom line you got to use what you feel is right for your situation. The K/N has always proven to be best for my equipment and performance setup.
