Please keep us posted on the outcome. I didn't like hearing BRP wouldn't pay the labor involved with this repair. I like you can repair the whole machine but I also bought the exstended warranty for any failures in the china steel and let them do the repairs under warranty so I don't have to.

This is the kind of thing we buy our warranty for, and if it has happened to others as some have posted then that means it is a manufacturer defect.

Is that not what warranty covers, DEFECTS? This is not a good thing for BRP in any way, first the defect then unwilling to correct the issue. I really wish BRP would have a rep post basic stuff on the forums to explain why a structral failure would not be covered in FULL (Parts and Labor).

I have a great dealer that has be very good about covering everything that has come up. Only a couple of things but I would have expected this to be covered if it was mine.

Sorry you have to deal with there problem.

I just brought mine into the dealer yesterday. I will be extremely disappointed (in Can Am) if parts AND labor are not covered. The failure happened at less than 10 miles per hour while riding on a well traveled trail. I was with a group of 14 other guys - all who were impressed with the Commander until they saw the wheel hung up under my machine while riding MILD trails. Needless to say, like me, they were surprised by the nature of the failure. I will chime back in and let you guys know how Can Am responds.

The safety issue is starting to be a big concern. A vehicle with 85 hp that is capable of 75 MPH needs quality parts under them! I hope the after market crowd (hint - hint) is tooling up to replace these inferior parts with some quality parts.. As for Can Am they are setting their selves up for a class action lawsuit by ignoring these issues..

I spoke to BRP today. Got a very nice lady to talk to. However she told me flat out I was talking too technical. And that these issues are supposed to be dealt with between the dealer techs and their techs, of which I was not aloud to speak to.

I made it very clear to her that the part should not have failed like this. And that I like everyone else I have read about were very lucky it did not happen at speed. BRP needs to fix this issue before someone gets killed.

She ended up telling me that the outcome as it is was the best they could do. I told her I was not happy even if I agreed to the replacement parts with me paying the labor. I still feel unsafe about the left side that did not break yet. And unless the new part has been updated I would not feel safe with it on the right either.

There has been some talk that the 2012 spindles are different and have more metal in the area where these broke. I asked her if that was true, and she said she did not know nor could she find out for me. She again put it back on the dealer,, saying my dealer should be able to answer that.

She did say that my claim was flagged and sent on to something else,, what ever that means. She said that does not happen to all claims and usually only safety issues. So again they are not stepping up to take care of this.

They keep saying it takes a special kind of hit for this break to happen. Everyone on here that has posted has said they were not doing anything this machine was not designed to do.

I rolled my Commander the second day I got it. I am not an unskilled driver by any means. I can feel a few PSI difference in my tires,, I can feel all kinds of things in a vehicle that most people do not. I was coming around the same corner I had done at the same speed all day prior to it. Just past mid turn, I felt something weird in the front right (Same side that is broken Now) and we were on the roof. I chalked it up as an odd rock or something in the rut I didnt see, but I've never really felt right about it. Now the more I think about it. The more I think that maybe when the first half of the joint broke. And then I've been driving around with this half broken spindle for the past months,, being so dam lucky it didnt break the rest of the way at some other time. With my wife or one of my friend's kids in the vehicle with me. Or my Dad, brother, and everyone else I have taken for rides in it. I feel like I have put there lives at risk, and I have been lucky. And this sucks.

So I went to the dealer with my trailer and said, drag that POS out here so I can load it take it home and fix it right. They were not very happy. They said "Oh, I hope its not torn apart" I told them BRP told me they sent pictures in, you guys told me you sent parts, someone is making stuff up, I bet the machine is still together.
Then they wanted to charge me an hour diagnos at $94. Their tech said some sh*t people should not say to customers,,, friggen kids can't control their emotions when someone confronts them on their work. I told them I would not pay $94 dollars for them to take pictures and send them to BRP and not even relay my concerns about the safety issue here. He said he had spent most of the time compiling the parts list. I said well thats something else we can get into, the spindle is the only part broken. Why is the parts list, Upper and Lower A-arms, ball joints, axle, spindle, fr shock, fr spring, fr wheel and tire. And he said things that you dont say to customers, if I was younger and dumber like him I would have knocked him out. And then spent the night in jail.

When I took the vehicle in originally. I told them about my saftey concern here, not just for myself but all Commander owners. They treated me like I was some *ssh*le then too. Again it seemed like the tech was offended that I was telling him what I wanted done. And explaining to him that ball joints are supposed to break before hard parts. They take it like I'm mad at them, and start to act all defensive, no I am just upset with this POS and you are supposed to be my voice to BRP,, you need to understand exactly where I am coming from. And the angry you get from me is supposed to be relayed to BRP. You dont take it personal,, this is business, and you are supposed to take care of your customers.

So anyway, the Service manager comes out. Real stand up guy,, probably the only one in the whole department that has any clue how to treat a customer. I agreed to pay half, because for some reason I felt bad that they need to pay the tech (same guy that treated me like an *ss) that is paid on this time. As if there is no profit margin to take the few bucks off of?

I told him all of this saftey stuff, and he actual seemed like he agreed. He was out the previous weekend in the dealers Demo Commander with his wife. Seemed like I sparked some thoughts in his head. Wonder if he takes her out in it again?

I hope they are happy with the money, it is the last dollars I will spend there. 5 dirt bikes, 3 street bikes, 1 highend jet ski and the commander I have bought there. Oh and I spent more money than all but one other account in parts the last year I was racing dirtbikes. But the place is under different ownership now, and I have only bought 2 bikes and the commander since then, guess that just doesn't mean a thing in todays business world?

So far it seems the only real option for replacement is Bop Racing Components.
Bopp Race Components - CAN-AM Commander
Anyone see anything else out there?
Does anyone have this kit that they can talk to me about it alittle?

Yes I think this problem is much bigger than they want to see.

I am not sure but I believe that when they deny the waranty claim it does not get treated as a defect. And then does not get looked into. I wonder how many of these they have denied. I cant believe no one has been hurt yet.

Sorry i don't have pic but the sharp cut where yours broke is different on 2012 .There is a radius there now instead of that sharp 90.
