Yea i had to do the same thing. I picked mine up at the local hardware. It was not much smaller however it did work. Also turning the drive shaft some helps.
I have NO idea where you could get it, but they used to make a needle type fitting (about 3" long) that inserted right in the middle of the fitting, at the check ball. It was no bigger around than a pencil. I used to have 1 somewhere and I guess I'll be looking for it now!!!
Anybody can order from McMaster now, I just ordered some stuff a couple of weeks ago for my boat. They are excellent with customer service, I give them a 10+. They Email you regarding order, quantities and such. At the last minute (20 min later), I needed to add 2 (2/0) 3/8" lug crimp connectors. I emailed to see if I could get that added to the 1st order for shipping and the 1st order was already in route. I actually got the 2 added connectors (shipped FedX) before I got the first order shipped (UPS) Thumbs up to McMaster Carr!!!!!!!!!!!!!! artsin01:
